Our human activity requires the burning of fossil fuels to provide energy to enable us to heat and cool our homes, drive our cars, take our holidays, to create and transport our food.

A consequence of burning of fossil fuels is the build up of Carbon Pollution in the atmosphere. This creates an insulating layer around the earth which traps heat and causes the Earths temperature to increase – this is know as Global Warming.

Increases in temperature are predicted to happen over a few years rather than over millions of years. This will not allow animals and plants to adapt quickly enough and many habitats will not survive.

Offsetting Carbon Pollution is a quick and easy way to reduce your impact. This is necessary short term solution. However it is also important that we understand how we can all live more sustainably.

EcoSmart funds a number of initiatives to reduce our Carbon Pollution:

Tree Planting:

When trees grow they absorb Carbon Pollution, depending on the tree it takes approximately 20 trees to absorb 1 tonne of Carbon Pollution.

Energy Efficiency:

EcoSmart is accredited to create Tradable Carbon Credits. These are sold to energy companies who have to purchase credits to offset their Carbon Pollution.

Renewable Energy Projects:

EcoSmart Renewable Energy Fund allows for communities to own their own power source.
